grouch

On sunday, the day after the pool party, big guy was tired and grouchy, as were hubs and I.  We definitely partied hard the night before.  And even though we had all gotten a lot of sleep, we still were out of it.  Some people were hungry, while others weren't.  I took a morning nap while they played upstairs.  We decided a low key activity would be good, so we went to see Monsters University.  The movie was really good, but also really long.  Big guy did a great job until with about forty minutes left, he looked at me and said, "Mommy, all done!" and headed for the exit.  Which was fine considering we had inhaled an entire bucket of popcorn!  We went to the Toys R Us for some big guy body wash and got a little Sully Monster stuffed animal (we have a big one already.)  Upon driving home, we made it maybe a half mile and big guy was OUT!  He woke up and had a sobbing fit when we got out of teh car.  I laid down the law and told him that he could either cry on the floor, play with toys, or go back to sleep.  he chose back to sleep, but only after making me snuggle up behind him.  I was ok with this choice, b/c then I fell asleep for a few hours, too!  We got up around four and went to our favorite pizza place.  Big guy wasn't feeling the eating too much, but he did have some ice cream following a half slice.  We went home and I shoved some yogurt into him, which he happily accepted.  Then right before bed, our 18 year old cat was walking by big guy.  He put out his hand and gave her a big, gentle pet, to which she promptly made a disgruntled noise.  Big guy looked at her and said, "Oh, you're a grouch!"  I laughed and asked Big guy if he was a grouch.  He looked at me with all seriousness and said, "Yes, mommy!"  Then we decided it was time for bed!

Pool Party

This weekend we went to a pool party at the home of one of my coworkers.  We were the first ones to arrive and big guy passed out on the way over.  So, while I navigated big guy out of the car, I may have accidentally locked the doors, thrown my keys into a bag, and then shut the door.  It wasn't until hubs was asking about the other bag (the ones with the keys in it), that I realized I had locked them in the car!  I couldn't believe it- a total ditz move.  The good news was that we were at my friends house and big guy was passed out on the couch.  The bad news was that hubs had to borrow my friend's car, drive a 1/2 hour back to our house to pick up the spare key, and then back to the pool party.  Hubs wasn't upset, big guy napped the whole time, and all was well, however, I still felt badly!!

About ten minutes before hubs returned, I woke big guy up so he would be ready to put on his swimsuit the minute hubs was back.  Big guy was very excited to see the pool and the people I work with, who have all known him since he was a newborn.  Hubs returned and the fun commenced.  Big guy, hubs, and I swam for over an hour in the pool.  Sitting on floaty things, playing with a ball, and the hit toy was the pool thermometer!  Random, I know, but that is how my bubba rolls.  Following a brief hot dog and pretzel break, we returned to the pool for a little bit before completely destroying and playing with every toy of the little 1 year old who lives at the house.  Big guy loved all the little toddler toys, especially the toys with balls, pop up parts, and this really cool bouncing/rocking horse thing.

And probably the sweetest part was big guy playing with little R, who is about 15 months.  Big guy was so gentle and patient.  He shared so well with the little one.  they really had a blast and were totally calm the entire time, which surprised me b/c prior to little R waking up from his nap, big guy was running all over furniture and flying onto the floor!  We ended the evening with some lollipops and Dora the explorer.  Big guy stayed awake on the way home, but upon returning home, we took a bath and promptly fell asleep.  And he slept like a rock- thank goodness for pool, sun, and fun!

cute and true statements

Today big guy had some classic lines.  Included were when playing with a ball of yarn that grandma J gave him: "Mommy,  kitty cats like the string." said will a completely straight face and totally serious.  and when I picked him up from school and asked what he did today: "Played with Yoni, played with cars, and dancing!"  Then he put his hands in the air and did a little shake in his car seat. so cute.

Dinner with V

Tonight we had our dear friend V over for dinner.  Every 6 weeks or so we do a meal, with the host home doing the main food and the visitor bringing dessert!  Tonight V came over for some chicken tacos and brought some yummy cookies for dessert!  Big guy adores V.  He constantly shows off for her.  Unfortunately for me, that usually means he tries to empty every container of toy that he owns.  As if to say, this could all be yours V, if you were here with me!  It's hilarious.  In a better way, he shows off his eating prowess.  Tonight he ate 3/4 of a chicken and cheese quesadilla.  A couple of mounds of shredded cheese, and some tortilla chips.  Following the ripping apart of all of his train tracks, he came and had two bowls of ice cream with sprinkles.  And he probably chugged 3 cups of chocolate milk.  Amazing.  We then played and watched some cat videos on the computer (google: simon's cat if you are a cat lover for some classic cat antics).  Overall, a very successful night!

Open Pool Season

The pool officially opened on memorial day weekend, but it hasn't been hot enough to go until this past weekend.  We had about five days of in the 90's.  Ah, the perfect weather.  Side note, I am part lizard- as in I love hot/sunny weather.  Big guy is much the same.  And the two of us are total water babies.  So, I knew on sunday that we had to go to the pool to swim and soak up our vitamin D!

On weekends, the pool opens at 11am.  We got there exactly at 11:02 and there were people already swimming!  We staked out a spot close to the little kid pool, but not in the fence for the little kid pool. Since big guy doesn't wear diapers anymore, he gets to go into the big kid pool!!  WE plopped down our stuff and I asked big guy: "What pool do you want to swim in?  Little pool or big pool?"  And he yelled, "BIG POOL!" and then started making his way towards the big pool.

The nice thing about the big pool is that it was a slanted entry into the pool that goes up to about three feet of water and there are some fun water spouts.  So, big guy is able to walk into the pool all by himself and can play in a good amount of space with the other kids who can't swim into the deep part yet either.  We played in that area for about fifteen minutes before big guy grabbed me and said, "mommy, swim!"  WE then spent the next hour practicing swimming.  Throwing our ball and going to get it.  Big guy also liked getting out of the pool, walking over to the steps while I swam over to them, and then jump into my arms!  It was just awesome.

Then we hopped out and had some lunch.  Following lunch, which big guy scarfed down, we used the potty and applied more sun block.  We then took some of our toys and went to the little pool.  We did about a half hour of little pool fun before big guy decided we needed more big pool goodness.  WE did another hour of big kid pool before it began to rain.  We grabbed our stuff and ran to the changing room.  We peed and then changed into real clothes.  Following a short run to the supermarket, we made it home about 2:45.  It was a totally awesome way to start our summer!
